Lucas has Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency and this year in honour of Rare Disease Day, he wanted to raise both awareness of rare diseases and valuable funds for CAN by hosting another ‘Star Blood’ walk.
His mum, Emma, says: “CAN have supported our family a lot over last the 11 years and Lucas is becoming a keen patient advocate, as well as being determined as ever to show his condition won’t stop him achieving his goals! He presented an assembly to his year group and encouraged classmates, friends and family to join him on a sponsored walk with a target of £500. His walk and sponsorship raised just over £2,000 for CAN but also valuable awareness of rare diseases generally.
“Please consider your own fundraising, however big or small, when Super Rare launches in February 2025 to raise awareness of CAN and your own rare condition.”
